Tori James, at the age of 25, became the first Welsh woman to climb Mount Everest. Tori stars in the BBC documentary ‘On Top of the World’ which was produced about her expedition and she is also the author of ‘Peak Performance’ which describes her record- breaking climb to the summit.
First impressions of Tori are incredibly deceptive, and this is what makes her so unique. Tori is barely 5”2 in height and with a petite, feminine appearance that is mis-matched with the most extreme environments in the world.
Tori has delivered over 300 presentations around the globe. She talks about achieving things against the odds. Not only will you get an insight into life in the extremes but Tori shares the importance of having a goal, of stepping outside of your comfort zone and what it means to have a growth mindset and be resilient.
She reinforces the importance of teamwork, courage and perseverance and encourages young people to be active and get outdoors. Tori believes that everyone is capable of more than they think and challenges them to unlock this potential.
Tori’s presentations include spectacular images and video footage and can combine a hands-on session to look at some of her clothing and equipment. Teacher CPD sessions are available on High Performing Teams, Personal Motivations & Relationships, Leading Yourself & Others.
In 2005 she was a member of the first all-female team to complete The Polar Challenge, a grueling 360 mile race to the Magnetic North Pole. In June 2014 Tori was part of the Beeline Britain team who became the first to travel in a straight line from Land’s End to John O’Groats. This is documented in the award-winning film “As The Crow Flies”.
Tori recently featured in a list of Wales’ top 100 brilliant women. Tori is the President of Girlguiding Cymru, a Fellow of British Exploring and an ambassador for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Wales. She is also a recipient of a ‘Points of Light’ Award from the Prime Minister in recognition of outstanding volunteering.
