As a visually impaired athlete, Rhiannon has spent 12 years representing both Wales and Great Britain winning 2 bronze Paralympic medals along with numerous god, silver and bronze European and World medals.
An experienced international sportswoman, Rhiannon began her international career in 2001 at the age of 14 and London 2012 was her 3rd Paralympic Games.
Competing at a high level whilst still being in full time education has taken a great amount of time management and dedication. Rhiannon has successfully achieved her GCSEs, A-Levels and a Bachelor’s degree all the while maintaining a balanced, athletic lifestyle. The hard work was worth it!
Early 2013 saw Rhiannon make the move from Paralympic swimming to cycling where she rides on the back of a tandem which is piloted by a fully sighted guide. Rhiannon has already represented Great Britain at the World Cup level this summer placing 4th in the 22KM time trial event and 6th in the 85KM road race.
Rhiannon has her eyes firmly set on making qualification for next year’s track world championships, Commonwealth Games as well as Rio in 2016
Rhiannon offers schools a diverse range of experience on sport, disability, discipline and determination. Her sessions are highly interactive and usually begin with an overview of the Olympic & Paralympic games and an explanation about the different types of disability that are included.
She talks about her own experience of dealing with a visual impairment in day to day like as well as general disability awareness, teamwork, communication and finding that one thing in life that you feel passionate about.
