Dr Mark Deeks is an international and TEDx professional speaker, teacher and performer, passionate about fostering creativity and harnessing the power of music to improve wellbeing, engagement, performance and mental health.
Mark is seamlessly able to combine his knowledge of music together with his passions for creativity and mental health, often using his piano, heavy metal and group singing. His enthusiasm for his subject, along with his personal story, make him an infectious speaker and host.
He has appeared as the guest expert for BBC’s Children in Need Big Singalong, as well as on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5, BBC Radio Newcastle, Times Radio, and has been featured in publications as varied as The Guardian and Metal Hammer.
Music has always shaped Mark's life, so much so that he started teaching piano from the age of 15 and have earned a PhD in Heavy Metal. But music has also played a huge role in navigating the mental health challenges of grief and anxiety.
Today, he helps people and organisations tap into that transformative power. From delicate piano to heavy metal to team building group singing, he shows how music can boost mental health, creativity, and performance, sometimes all at once!
