At only 20-years-old, the students can really relate to Haleem. On first appearance, Haleem is a young, well-dressed, stylish young man. The students don’t see him as an outdated, unrelatable speaker, instead, someone like them. The way Haleem speaks shows he really understands what it’s like being a student. He shares his own experience of teenage life. How he suffered from his mental health, battled many addictions & an eating disorder, and started abusing and selling class-A drugs.
However, his story isn’t one of despair, but hope. Haleem shares how he turned his life around. Today, he is a professional Actor, content creator, facilitator, and speaker. He shares the tools which changed his life and offers a story (and blueprint) of hope, for anyone wanting to make a change in their life, regardless of how small.Having featured on media platforms such as the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, Haleem acts as an inspirational figure. A role model, especially for other young men.
He is also a trained actor and public speaker. His skills in vocal delivery, breath work, physical expression and pause, act as an asset in delivering his points. What makes Haleem different though, apart from his age, lived experience and public speaking skills, is the training and experience he has in the space of mental health and recovery. Professionally, Haleem has worked with charities like Mind, The Charlie Waller trust and Time-to-Change.
On a personal level, though, Haleem has been involved in 12-step fellowships, Native American traditions, Buddhist practises and shadow work. This blend of training allows Haleem to offer a unique approach different from other public speakers in this space. Haleem is more than just a speaker. He is a symbol of hope for students. He vouches to support students after his talks via social media, which he does regularly. Haleem often says that he aims to be the role model he never had. I think he is fulfilling that role perfectly.
